Optimizing the management of CV Risk & Diabetes
Translating recent evidence to clinical practice

As an educational service to participants of the Cardio Diabetes Master Class (CDMC) held on April 12-13, 2014 in Almaty, Kazakhstan the following resources are available:

  • Faculty teaching slides to view and download (in PDF)
  • Webcast interviews  with faculty members (posted soon)

The CDMC provided clinicians with an interest in diabetes and cardiovascular disease with an educational program entitled: 'Optimizing the management of CV Risk & Diabetes:Translating recent evidence to clinical practice' which was designed to provide the participants with new information and perspectives on effective strategies to help their patients, with diabetes and/or increased cardiovascular risk, reach their treatment goals.

The educational objectives of the program were:

  • To summarise the epidemiology and pathophysiology of patients at increased cardiovascular risk and diabetes
  • To explore mechanisms and common pathways underlying the development of cardiovascular disease and diabetes
  • To review and discuss the importance of glucose management and the rationale for early intervention strategies in patients with diabetes
  • To discuss the role of anti-diabetic therapy, in particular the use of DPP4 inhibitors and TZD’s, in a risk-based intervention strategy that targets glucose control and cardiovascular risk factors
  • To provide an expert perspective on the expanding role of RAS blockade in multiple organs in the treatment of patients at increased CV risk
  • To discuss current and future strategies for practical management and interventions to prevent cardiovascular events in multirisk patients
