Elucidating the role of gut microbes in CVD may provide future therapeutic strategies
Stanley Hazen discusses the connection between our gut microbiome and physiologic processes relevant to heart disease, via a pathway involving the metabolite TMAO. Diet and therapies can affect TMAO levels, which influences platelet reactivity. Specifically targeting microbes that increase TMAO levels, may prove to be a future therapeutic strategy.
