ADA’s Obesity Association publishes guideline on the pharmacological treatment of obesity
The Obesity Association, a division of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), published a Standards of Care in Overweight and Obesity guideline on the pharmacologic treatment of obesity in adults.
The guideline includes recommendations on discussing obesity medications, setting treatment goals, selecting obesity medications, long-term management of obesity medications, lifestyle intervention, special populations and circumstances, and clinical practice considerations.
Only FDA-approved anti-obesity medications were included in the guideline. GLP-1RA and dual GIP/GLP-1RA were highlighted for their robust weight-loss efficacy and cardiometabolic benefits.
