Publication of KDIGO 2024 guideline for CKD

25/03/2024

The KDIGO 2024 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has been published, updating the previous KDIGO 2012 guideline.

The KDIGO 2024 guideline aims to assist clinicians in the management of patients with CKD, both adults and children. However, this guideline is not focused on people receiving dialysis and kidney transplant recipients. Most statements from the 2012 guideline have been updated based on new evidence and current practice. Only 6 statements from 2012 are currently present in the updated guideline in their original form.

The guideline discusses the evaluation of CKD, risk assessment in persons with CKD, management to delay CKD progression and CKD complications, medication management, and optimal care models for CKD. Treatment approaches and guideline recommendations follow the “Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation” (GRADE) approach. The guideline also discusses limitations of current evidence, and gives recommendations for further research.
