Scientific statement from AHA on Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic (CKM) syndrome

26/10/2023

The American Heart Association has published a scientific statement on the evidence for the science and clinical management of Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic (CKM) syndrome.

News - Oct. 27, 2023

The American Heart Association (AHA) published a summary on the evidence and fundamental gaps related to the science, screening, prevention, and management on cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome (CKM). Major guidelines and a review of the scientific literature were used as input for this summary.

Although there is an extensive body of literature that supports the understanding and approach to prevention and management for patients with CKM syndrome, there are gaps in knowledge on this topic. Gaps include the mechanisms of disease development, heterogeneity within clinical phenotypes, interplay between social determinants of health and biological risk factors, accurate assessments of disease incidence in the context of competing risks, and the clinical care for CKM.
